Buying vs. Renting an Instrument

Getting your first musical instrument is an extremely exciting event! While some families may be interested in purchasing an instrument, when it comes to musical instruments, "you get what you pay for!" There is nothing more frustrating for a new music student than trying to learn how to play on a low-quality instrument. Cheap, low-quality instruments often bend or break extremely easily and severely limit the student's ability to make a good sound. Those students who are able to get past the challenges of an inferior instrument are usually limited in the progress they can make beyond a beginning level.

Set your student up for success by providing him/her with a quality instrument.

We recommend that Beginning Band & Orchestra families rent an instrument from a local music store for their first year of playing. You can be assured that music stores that rent instruments are providing quality instruments. In addition to this, many music stores have a "rent-to-own" program that allow you to apply your rental payments towards the purchasing your student's instrument later.
